Preliminary Exercise 2: Barthes' Theory Semiotic Analysis of The Hunger Games Catching Fire Table 2

Roland Barthes' Theory of Semiotics      The start of the movie was that Katness' sister was picked to do the Hunger Games, so Katness decided to volunteer instead to save her. The next clip was showing how ex-players of the game needed to play in the game and Katness and her team played a trick on President Snow. they said that Katness was pregnant meaning that it would be wrong if she played in the Hunger Games potentially killing her baby. This would put them into a riot and cause chaos.      This activity showed how we could find connotation and denotation in real world/ movie references and not just in pictures. This also was able to show me that connotation and denotation can be in sounds as well. Having these properties in a show also develops the plot and helps the viewer understand.

I always consume media, watching movies, reading books, social media, etc. and using my phone or laptop to access it. These media products are the most accessible to everyone and that why it's so easy to consume media. Before getting into media studies, I never thought about all the elements that were included into media: costumes, characters, sound, lighting, etc. I really only watch it never really inspected it. I would like to do a horror/ thriller film opening. This would go for teenagers that like horror/ thriller movies, I chose to do this genre because it's one of my favorites outs...
