Preliminary Exercise: (setting, acting, costume, hair, and makeup) Part 3

Annotation of Characters      For this assignment me and my partners chose to do a horror movie to do our activity three on. Task four was my job and for that I annotated three characters  from our movie. Annotating is a way of going into detail on something and picking apart something. For each character I answered seven questions on them. This furthered my understanding that the costumes characters wear is important to the theme and composition to make the audience more engaged in the movie.

Discussing Setting      For part three of activity three we had to discuss the setting in which the movie was taken place. We needed to find of the place, time period, culture, economics, mood, message, and genre. The movie that me and my teammates chose was a horror movie. We took scenes from the movie and analyzed it. This further our understanding of how a movie's components create a theme and tone based on the elements of setting.

Important Information      For this part of activity three we had to tell the general information of the movie. What the movie is, genre of the movie, who is the screen writer, director, what is the production company, the release date of the movie etc. Every movie like the back of the of a book needs a summary and tagline. A summary is a general description of what something is about, and a tag line is a saying that will show up in the book or movie. Everything that is put out into the world has a specific audience that it is targeted to.

Introduction to Mise En Scene Codes Organizer

Elements of Mise En Scene      Mise en scene is examples of signs: camerawork, sound, editing. Knowing these signs are important to a film to further develop the overall style and quality of it. Mise en scene is what makes up the film, it helps develops the theme of the film, and it makes for better outcome of a film.      These pictures show the information that develops the movie further on. The mise en scene that is shown tells us that this movie is rustic and old but still modern in a way with a horror color scheme (dark colors and red for blood).

Preliminary Exercise 3: Mise En Scene Codes and Genre Conventions Bubble Diagram

Genre in film is the type of film/ theme of the film, and for audiences knowing what the genre of a film helps them figure out if they are going to like it or not. Three genres that I usually enjoy watch is horror (usually has a dark disturbing subject matter), comedy (typically emphasizes the humor in a film), and Romance (focuses on a romantic relationship and story). These can be involved in the same movie which is why I really enjoy it. From the media it shows what the audience enjoy and once they know the background, they can be more engaged into the film. We were to pick a genre and movies that can go with the genre and fill out the customized bubble chart that goes along with it. I learned many components that go along with the genre "horror". I worked by myself, and I knew since I enjoy art stuff so much it was going to be a better assignment. To represent the horror in my poster I drew Penny Wise's iconic red balloon, Jason's mask, and the tree from the conju...
