Introduction to Storyboarding: Camera Composition

Camera Composition      Camera composition is how a photographer chooses to arrange visual elements within the frame. There are many different elements that are within the film that makes it more interesting to the audience. Shapes shot emphasizes the thing, usually a character, in the frame with a shape like a square or circle. Leading lines are usually to emphasize key details or an important thing in a film.

Introduction to Storyboarding: Camera Framing

Camera Framing      Camera framing is how the cinematographer captures the character or characters in a shot, the number of characters can go from one to hundreds of people in a single frame. But this doesn't just count for characters, it can be items too. The insert shot can be for objects too; this shot can reveal key details for a film.

Introduction to Storyboarding: Camera Angles

Camera Angles      Camera angles is the placement of the camera, that makes the angles how it is. The cinematographer does this to make dimension and dynamic in the film so that it isn't just one flat angle, this allows for emotion to be  conveyed  through the camera. For example, low angle shows dominance and power in the film whereas high angle (the polar opposite) shows submission and weakness.

Introduction to Storyboarding: Shot Sizes

Shot Sizes      Shot sizes is how far away the subject of what you are filming to the camera, usually only showing a character rather than scenery (other than establishing shot and sometimes master shot). Establishing shot is the shot that would be farthest away, showing the geography of the scene. Whereas extreme close-up shot would be the shot that is closest to the camera. This focuses on one specific thing and bring close attention to it.

Introduction to Camerawork Warm-Up Exercise 1

Camerawork is the way the camera is movie throughout the movie/ film/ or show. It enhances how the movie/ tv show feels to the audience, helps develop the theme, and a sense of professionalism. Cinematography is the art of motion picture, and the cinematographer does this job. Some of the best cinematographers are Roger Deakins (Blade Runner and The Gold Finch) and Caleb Deschanel (The Right Stuff and The Passion of Christ).      During the introduction of camera work I was introduced to shot sizes and camera angles. Shot sizes are how close something is to the camera and what the camera is capturing. Camera angles is what the angle of the camera and how it is perceiving the thing to it showing. Reference videos helped clarify what it was. There are nine shot sizes and eight camera angles. The most interesting thing was probably how many of each there was and that there were names for them. Jobs associated are: director, cinematographer, etc.
