Introduction to Camerawork Warm-Up Exercise 1

Camerawork is the way the camera is movie throughout the movie/ film/ or show. It enhances how the movie/ tv show feels to the audience, helps develop the theme, and a sense of professionalism. Cinematography is the art of motion picture, and the cinematographer does this job. Some of the best cinematographers are Roger Deakins (Blade Runner and The Gold Finch) and Caleb Deschanel (The Right Stuff and The Passion of Christ).

During the introduction of camera work I was introduced to shot sizes and camera angles. Shot sizes are how close something is to the camera and what the camera is capturing. Camera angles is what the angle of the camera and how it is perceiving the thing to it showing. Reference videos helped clarify what it was. There are nine shot sizes and eight camera angles. The most interesting thing was probably how many of each there was and that there were names for them. Jobs associated are: director, cinematographer, etc.

Camera Angles      Camera angles is the placement of the camera, that makes the angles how it is. The cinematographer does this to make dimension and dynamic in the film so that it isn't just one flat angle, this allows for emotion to be  conveyed  through the camera. For example, low angle shows dominance and power in the film whereas high angle (the polar opposite) shows submission and weakness.
